The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next 2 Steve Prefontaine Volt is an elite running shoe that pays homage to legendary runner Steve Prefontaine. Coached at University of Oregon by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, Prefontaine is known as "the soul of Nike."
The Steve Prefontaine Volt Nike Vaporfly Next 2 features a bright yellow upper constructed of cool, lightweight, stretchy FlyKnit. A ribbed synthetic overlay in Sky Blue adorns the toe, providing structural support as well as a pop of contrasting color. The black sock liner provides a snug, sock-like fit. One Nike Swoosh in black appears on lateral collar, while the other begins on the toebox and runs across the medial side panel. Nike Running branding adorns one heel and the other sports a racing timer graphic.
The most impressive aspect of this running shoe is its high-octane sole unit. The midsole of thick orange and blue ZoomX foam provides cushioning and energy return, while the orange rubber outsole features a forefoot pod of black rubber with modified waffle traction and vents that allow the ZoomX to expand. The Nike ZoomX Vaporfly Next 2 Steve Prefontaine Volt was released on May 26th, 2022, for $225 retail.
