The ASICS EX89 White Grand Shark was designed by Toshikazu Kayano to pay homage to basketball shoes from the late 1980s.
The White/Grand Shark colorway of the ASICS EX89 features an upper that begins with a base of white leather. White leather overlays adorn the toe cap, vamp, eyestays, mudguard, collar, and heel. Dark blue leather overlays course both horizontally and vertically across the side panel in the iconic ASICS pattern. White laces crisscross over a white mesh tongue that sports tonal ASICS branding. The padded sock liner in white mesh matches the insole, which sports blue ASICS branding. ASICS branding embroidered in blue hits the heel in a window between the leather overlays.
What we appreciate most about this sneaker is the sole. The midsole has enhanced cushioning thanks to FF BLAST technology, and the sail and gray rubber outsole features a traction pattern inspired by a city skyline. The ASICS EX89 White Grand Shark was released on February 1, 2023, for a retail price of $110.
