The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Sashiko dresses the classic long-distance running shoe silhouette to pay homage to the Japanese textile art of Sashiko—decorative and reinforcement stitching.
The Sashiko Nike Zoom Vomero 5 features an upper of light tan twill on the forefoot and tonal mesh on the side panel. Soft leather overlays in medium brown and orange land on the toe box, quarter panel, and heel, offering both style and support. A pale gray suede overlay adorns the eyestays, while dark brown leather forms the side-panel Nike Swoosh. A tan plastic cage at the midfoot and again at the heel provides stability as well as ventilation. This upper with an artisanal vibe rests atop a sail-colored foam midsole with Zoom Air for durable cushioning and a dark brown rubber outsole lugged for impact absorption and traction.
The most enjoyable and eye-catching aspect of this shoe is the Sashiko stitching on the blue denim collar. This decorative stitching is echoed throughout the upper by the noticeable stitching on the leather overlays. The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Sashiko was released on December 30, 2023, for $170 retail.
